La centralidad de la ciudadanía activa Reflexiones en torno a Aristóteles, Arendt y Maquiavelo

Abstract

This essay has as aim to think about the notion of the citizenship from the political philosophy point of view. Based on the assumption of a current citizen expansion due to the important boom of the social manifestations, calling into question the liberal vision of the citizen concept. For this purpose, it is proposed a republican reading of the concept, based on the thought of three of its main exponents, that is to say, Aristotle, Arendt and Machiavelli. Posing the principal ideas about the political activity of each author –the Aristotelian bios politikos, Arendtian vita activa and Machiavellian vivere civile– in order to rescue the idea of citizenship that it is deducted from their postulates. Finally, the development of the reading of each author will let us to delineate the notion of an active citizenship, based on the “citizen moment” of the individuals’ union and the controversial emergence in the public sphere.
